Just bring him out in a snuggle sack on your lap while you’re watching tv, or create a hedgie-safe area for him to be while you do stuff around your house, he will adapt to all the funny smells and sounds slowly, and will eventually be more friendly and open :) Gus did the same thing, he stayed in a ball until I put him back in his cage, now he hardly rolls up when I pick him up with his blanket.
